The increase of heart disease in America has touched all of us, through our patients, our families and our own lives. As Chinese medical practitioners, we have the means to powerfully influence our patients' health when they are suffering from modern metabolic illnesses. Using Western diagnostic information as the guide to determine treament methods will result in very poor results. The key to being highly effective is in accurate diagnosis combined with knowledge of the correct Chinese herbs and formulas. Often we are afraid to use some of the most effective herbs for these conditions such as Da Huang (rhurbarb) or Fu Zi (aconite) because we do not fully understand the diagnostic keys that enable us to use these safely.
In this two day course, we will learn both the patho-physiology and the diagnostic keys to working with these ever more common illnesses. Building upon this foundation, we wil then look at the most effective treatment methods based on the instructor's clinical experience. Case studies will be presented for regulating blood pressure and blood lipids, lowering blood insulin levels and treating obesity.
Sharon Weizenbaum, LicAc., Dipl Ac., Dipl Ch.H., has been practicing Chinese medicine for over 23 years. She studied extensively with Dr. Shu Rong Zhu, a gynecologist from the Shanghai College of TCM. Ms Weizenbaum also completed a 5 month study program in herbal gynecology at he the Zhejiang College of TCM, Hang Zhou, PRC in 1990. She was a faculty member at the Northwest Institute of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine for two years and has taught seminars nationwide. She studied and apprenticed with Kiko Matsumoto for 12 years and has integrated this style with her own sensitivities and her knowledge of the classics to form Integrative Mandala Acupuncture, which is currently being taught at the White Pine Healing Arts. In 1998, she founded White Pine Healing Arts, where she is currently its director. She is known for her clear, practical and inspiring presentation of clinically applicable material. Ms Weizenbaum is currently a Frances Perkins Scholar at Mt Holyoke College where she is translating her teacher's book on gynecology.
